The Black-tailed Trainbearer, a distinctive hummingbird with a very long tail and a short bill, was photographed at the Zuro Loma Reserve in Pichincha, Ecuador. This subspecies (victoriae) can be spotted across a range extending from Northern Colombia to Southern Ecuador, inhabiting forest edges on mountain slopes, Polylepis woodland, gardens, and sub-páramo to páramo areas at altitudes between 2600–4000 meters.
